VIIRS User Meeting - Celebrating 10 years of SNPP (Day One)

October 28, 2021 marked the successful 10th anniversary of the Suomi NPP (SNPP) satellite, a critical risk reduction and preparatory mission for the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS). The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) is the key imager on JPSS satellites and provides significant improvements in global imaging capabilities for operational meteorology and other applications over the legacy Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) on Polar Orbiting Environmental Satellites (POES). A critical part of the JPSS mission is to work closely with the end users to enable full use and exploitation of the data to maximize the benefits of the mission to NOAA, our nation and society.

As we celebrate 10 successful years of the SNPP mission and as we prepare to launch the JPSS-2 satellite before the end of 2022, JPSS is organizing a two-day virtual workshop on June 29-30, 2022 to hear from key users about how VIIRS products and applications are benefitting organizations meet their mission goals in serving their stakeholders and society. This information will enable us to assess the impacts of VIIRS to society and provide information on future mission formulation.
